Are Africa and Europe ready to deal with the next global health crisis?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccine inequity had a profound impact on low- and lower-middle income countries, leading to over a million deaths. How can Africa and Europe cooperate to boost Africa’s capacity in vaccine manufacturing and public health ahead of the next health emergency? This panel debate brought together citizens and experts from both continents to discuss the future of EU-Africa health cooperation. In this panel you can hear from:

  • Hamid Khayar, ICT entrepreneur from Chad
  • Simina Peterfi, public health advocate and citizen of Romania
  • Richard Amor, Head of Corporate Lending, Asia, Latin America and Africa, Caribbean and Pacific, European Investment Bank
  • Caroline Mbindyo, CEO, Amref Health Innovations for Amref Health Africa
  • Prerna Humpal, Debating Europe (moderator)

…and pre-recorded insights from Dr. Morena Makhoana, CEO, Biovac

In November 2022, Debating Europe invited over 100 young people across both Africa and Europe to participate in a series of online focus group discussions on, amongst other issues, how the COVID pandemic affected their perception of threat. We brought the views of the 100 young people to experts and citizens from both continents to discuss the future of Europe-Africa health cooperation in the above panel debate.
